Winter dresses are one of my favorite styles for “going out” all autumn and winter long. I’m just going to go ahead and say it – I feel most comfortable in dresses!
For some reason, jeans have the reputation of being the most comfortable thing to wear, but I just honestly don’t think they are! So, I love finding ways to style winter dresses so they’re perfect for cool weather.
How to Style Winter Dresses
-
Find A Versatile Dress
I love finding dresses that can be styled for both fall and winter months, and I love how this Joie dress can be really casual or dressed up. And that tie detail! It reminds me of that 70’s look, and I love it.
I actually found this dress from Rent the Runway! I do the RTR Unlimited program, which is like a monthly subscription. The program is an awesome deal for me since I need some many new outfits so frequently.
I believe it’s a really great option for anyone that needs a quick turn around in their closet. It’s been really helpful for photo shoots, events, weddings, and that sort of thing. Let’s be honest- once we’re photographed in an outfit, we don’t want to wear it again around the same crowd!

Layer With Thick Leggings
Pair your dress with thick leggings that keep you covered, comfortable and warm! These Spanx leggings are the best ones I’ve found so far, and while they’re definitely an investment for leggings, they’re so worth it!
-
Pair With Tall Boots
Over the knee boots plus a long sleeve dress is one of my favorite combos for the colder months. The key here to keep it from looking too “Pretty Woman”, if you know what I’m sayin’. These boots are Stuart Weitzmans and they’re my go-to boots for any winter outfit!
Find a dress that keeps everything covered, so that you’re only revealing about two-three inches of leg between the dress and top of the boot. Just a little bit of leg for some subtle sexiness!

Choose Complimentary Accessories
I also love that it’s a floral print but still has plenty of fall tones. That’s why I paired it with the burgundy clutch- to help pull out more of the fall colors in the print.
The over-sized clutch is from Simply B in Paducah, Kentucky! I love the color for fall. Over-sized clutches are such an easy way to add extra style to an otherwise simply outfit.
